As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the UK’s transit system, HMRC has confirmed that the UK will transition to the new NCTS6 system by September 1st 2025.
This upgrade is crucial for maintaining compliance with the EU’s Common Transit Convention (CTC) and the latest National Transit Application (DDNTA) requirements.
NCTS6 introduces key features designed to improve safety and security in international transit. One of the most significant changes is the introduction of Transit Security Accompanying Documents (TSADs), which are aligned with the EU’s Import Control System (ICS2).
While the UK has opted out of using TSADs for now, this feature will play a pivotal role for those countries that choose to opt in. In addition, three new transit messages—IE117, IE058, and IE119—will streamline the exchange of transit-related information, although the UK will not be implementing the latter two.
The NCTS6 system will be deployed in two phases.
Phase one: A migration pathway scheduled September 1st will address issues found in NCTS5 and lay the groundwork for the full NCTS6 launch.
Phase two: Expected this year, but to be confirmed. This phase will finalise the system update with complete features, including full integration with TSADs.
Multifreight users can be assured our MultiShed software will be compatible with NCTS6. We are working closely with HMRC and third-party providers to ensure smooth integration.
