MultiFreight Managing Director and co-owner Ian Taylor has been appointed Chairman of the Felixstowe Port Users’ Association (FPUA), having served on the Association’s Executive Committee since 2023.
Ian originally joined the committee as the Category 5 Representative, representing businesses providing services to the Felixstowe port community, before taking over as Chairman at the Association’s AGM in June.
He succeeds Jason Flower, who steps down following 13 years on the Executive Committee, including nine years as Chairman. During Jason’s tenure, the FPUA continued to strengthen its role as a collective voice for businesses operating in and through the Port of Felixstowe, while raising more than £100,000 for local charities and community organisations.
Ian said: “It’s a real privilege to take on the role of Chairman and I’d particularly like to thank Jason for everything he has done for the FPUA.
“He has left some great foundations for us to build on. We already have 139 members, but when you consider the number of businesses operating in and through the Port of Felixstowe, I believe there’s a real opportunity to grow that further and strengthen the voice of the Association.”
Representing the Felixstowe port community
Established in 1969, the FPUA brings together businesses from across the Felixstowe port and logistics community, providing members with a collective voice and opportunities to share knowledge, engage with the wider industry and build relationships across the sector.
Today, the Association represents 139 member businesses, spanning shipping lines, freight forwarders, hauliers, warehousing and other businesses providing services to the port community.
Growing and broadening that membership will be one of Ian’s priorities as Chairman.
“I’ve really enjoyed being involved with the FPUA over the last three years and it’s given me the opportunity to meet and work with businesses from right across the port community.
“We have a knowledgeable and experienced committee and a strong membership, but I think there are many businesses operating through Felixstowe that either aren’t currently members or perhaps don’t fully understand what the FPUA does.
“I’d like us to raise the profile of the Association, communicate more with our members and the wider port community, and encourage more businesses to get involved.”
The FPUA has already begun increasing its online presence, with a refreshed website and a new LinkedIn page providing additional ways to communicate Association news, events and industry updates.
Ian also hopes to continue strengthening engagement between the Association, the Port of Felixstowe and businesses across the wider logistics community.
“The Port of Felixstowe supports an enormous network of businesses and people, and I think the FPUA has an important role in bringing that community together.
“The more businesses we represent, the more knowledge and experience we bring together and the stronger our ability to represent the issues that matter to port users.”
