Goods moving between the UK mainland and Northern Ireland will be subject to new measures in conjunction with the Windsor Framework, but that has been delayed from March 31st to May 1st 2025.
In an attempt to streamline processes, shipments will be subject to green and red lanes. Goods that are due to end their journey in Northern Ireland will almost always be directed through the green lane.
To benefit fully from the simplified processes, goods should be moving under the UKIMS (UK Internal Market Scheme), which confirms goods are not at risk of entering the Republic Of Ireland, and the importer of record should be IMMI-ready.
IMMI (Internal Market Movement Information) is a simplified dataset that requires less information than a full declaration once authorised.
Being IMMI-ready reduces the complexity of the process for importers, thus streamlining the process. Goods will no longer attract duty upon arrival for approved importers and they will not need to provide a supplementary declaration.
Importers can check whether they are IMMI-ready via their TSS (Trader Support Scheme) profile, the dashboard outlines the steps needed.
The UKIMS authorisation also needs to be uploaded and then they should be granted access to the simplified process.
